Twelve Businesses to be Honored with Pacesetter Business Recognition Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky.  − Twelve high performing second-stage businesses will be recognized in the inaugural class of the Pacesetter Business Recognition Program.  The businesses being honored for their impact on Kentucky’s economy and communities include:

  • Big Meadow Oil Company Inc., Knob Lick
  • Custom Tool & Manufacturing Company, Lawrenceburg
  • Hitcents Inc., Bowling Green
  • Interstate Natural Gas Company, Pikeville
  • Lawrence & Associates, Louisville
  • LCM Company, Lexington
  • Oscarware Inc., Bonnieville
  • Pendleton Data Farm, Falmouth
  • SouthEast Telephone, Pikeville
  • The Gallaher Group, Ashland
  • Twin Rivers Inc., Livermore
  • Walbert Trucking Inc., Glasgow

A panel of judges selected these winners because nominations showed they are changing the economic landscape of Kentucky by introducing innovative products; increasing sales and/or production; boosting employment; and, serving the communities of the Commonwealth.  Each of the winning businesses demonstrated the intent and capacity to grow based on employee and sales growth, entrepreneurial leadership, sustainable competitive advantage and additional notable factors that showcase the company’s success. 

Winners will be recognized in front of government leaders and small business owners and advocates at the Kentucky Celebrates Small Business event being held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort.  In addition to recognition at a reception and luncheon, winners will receive an award inscribed with their company’s name and a profile of their company in a full-color commemorative program magazine.  Additionally, this is not a one time recognition; each year, the program will reflect on the success of past winners as a new class of Pacesetters is introduced.

The Pacesetter Business Recognition Program and the Kentucky Celebrates Small Businesses event are a collaborative effort between the Kentucky Small Business Development Center, headquartered at the University of Kentucky’s Office of Commercialization and Economic Development; the United States Small Business Administration; Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development; and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis – Louisville Branch.
