Beginning July 1, 2009, minimum wage for covered nonexempt workers in Kentucky will be increased to $7.25 per hour. The current minimum wage of $6.55 per hour went into effect in July 2008. The rate for tipped employees remains the same.
Kentucky is getting an early start on the wage increase. The Fair Labor Standards Act, the federal law that includes minimum wage provisions, does not require states to comply with the new provision until July 24, 2009.
